What does Hitachi, Mitsubishi and Pioneer have in Common?

innovation, performance and style.
Thats right Hitachi has launched the Ultrathin 1.5 inch deep HDTV Display series making then the thinest and with 120Hz 1080P capabilities they will be hot!

Mitsubishi is scheduled to ship their new LASERVUE Laser Based HDTV’s which display more color then any other display technology ever! And since the light source is lasers they will look great 5 years after you purchase them!

And Pioneer has managed to improve Kuro flat panel over last year with unmeasurable black levels. The blacks are very black, I was quite shocked to see the blacks improve over last years KURO. Pioneer also released the SC series ICE powered Sound Creators!

Other notable products are Yamaha’s RX-V863 Home Theater Receiver. And Samsungs LED Backlit LCD products.

Mitsubishi LaserTV Debut

Filed under: Uncategorized, DLP Television, CES Cedia and the like — Walt @ 11:12 am

Well the LaserTV is real and I have to say outstanding! Good Job Mitsubishi :)
It has been a long time since I saw something so jaw dropping. I was amazed by the color saturation and the contrast ratio. The red jumped off the screen at me like I have never seen before. I was then given a demonstration of 3D movie content that was truly amazing. I have seen 3D before but this was truly amazing. The future of LaserTV is brilliant and full of color. If you consider that the two primary picture elements have a 100,000 hour life expectancy with no measurable decay that means that this technology will be around for quite a while.

LASER TV Debut @ 2008 CES To Mitsubishi Dealers

It looks like the LASER TV is coming sooner rather then later. Based on the formal invite I received form Mitsubishi I think it will ship in 2008! I hope to be seeing the finished preproduction engineering sample at a formal Debut January 7th @ CES. This will be a Press only with a few select Dealers being invited. I am very excited about the future of LASER TV. It is has the potential to unseat Plasma for the best Picture Quality position while simultaneously unseating LCD as the brightest technology.

SED TV Development Stalled!

Filed under: Plasma Television, LCD Televisions, Failed product — Walt @ 8:54 am

Well it looks like SED is a no go at this point, At least stalled again anyway.
There must be some kind of production process problem. It sounds a bit like LCOS part du.
Here is a link to the story if you want further details.

SED was to be the King of flat panel technology. It looks like that may not happen for another year.

Plasma Vs LCD

Filed under: Plasma Television, LCD Televisions, Television Service — Walt @ 9:31 am

There are many opinions as to what is better Plasma or LCD. If one visits a typical Big Box these days you will likely be told that LCD is better and then maybe even shown a bright picture video loop and conclude that they are indeed better. Here are some important facts that you may want to consider before making such a conclusion.

I have included only the three most important Pro’s and Con’s about the technologies. These facts are applicable in the context of a typical US consumer watching TV, HDTV, DVD and a verity of different types of programming. If you are a gamer you will likely choose DLP or Plasma not LCD assuming money and size are not an issue.

Top 3 Pro’s

Plasma: Better Blacks, better color, more durable screen surface.

LCD: Brighter, Less expensive, Uses less power.

Top 3 Con’s

Plasma: Possible Burn In (Over blown), Power Use (Same as traditional TV)

LCD: Poor Blacks (Hard to see dark scenes), Screen Easily Damaged( i.e. Wii Remote), Slow refresh (Non issue with 120HZ).

Mitsubishi 2008 Line Show Notes

Wow what a show. Mitsubishi is continuing to innovate television technology. Mitsubishi will have a 73″ 1080P television that is 17.5 ” deep and only 92 lbs. That is truly amazing when you stop and think about it. The 15K LG Plasma is 11 inches deep and 300 lbs try hanging that on a wall. For the folks that want a really Big Picture this will be a serious candidate.

Other highlights include the new 40″ and 52″ LCD Flat Panel TV’s, all 1080P and seveal 120HZ. Most products will have 3 or 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs. One of many cool things about these units is the sculpted backs. When you look at them from the side they have clean lines and when mounted on the wall with a chief mount you will not see mounts or wiring.
In addition the Frame is thiner then any other LCD I have seen yet.

I saw further revisions of LASER DLP HDTV . We will see this technology in early to mid 2008. What an incredible technology.
