Which type of TV is right for you? That is the right question. So I have good news, you have more choices than ever! Of course the flip side is you have too many choices to make the decision an easy one. We're here to help.

I have been in this business all my life and it has never been more confusing than it is right now. We have 6 display technologies (PDP, LCD, LCOS, DLP, CRT, MD LCD) to choose from as consumers. In addition, several more are promised to be coming over the next ten years. So how do you choose which is right? I will attempt to point you in the right direction.

  • "Where are you going to put it?"
  • Is the TV going into the family room, kitchen, restroom, bedroom, or even outside?
  • Then ask yourself is it to be hung on a wall or put into a niche or entertainment center?
  • If it is to be hung on a wall then Plasma or LCD is probably the right direction.
  • If it is going into a niche or entertainment center, then DLP, LCDMD or the other Micro Display technologies might be better.

If you want 37 inch or smaller screen size the LCD makes the most sense. However, if you want 42 inch to 63 inch then Plasma is the best choice at this time.

A DLP, LCDMD or LCOS are all good choices. These TVs are being referred to collectively as "Micro Displays" which can be misleading since micro means small. The micro in this case refers to the "picture maker." The magnified image is sent to a mirror on the back of the TV to the "catch" screen. These sets are available in sizes ranging from 44 inches to 73 inches. Which one to choose? DLP, LCD, LCOS, or SXRD. Each one has advantages and disadvantages over each other.
