Well the LaserTV is real and I have to say outstanding! Good Job Mitsubishi
It has been a long time since I saw something so jaw dropping. I was amazed by the color saturation and the contrast ratio. The red jumped off the screen at me like I have never seen before. I was then given a demonstration of 3D movie content that was truly amazing. I have seen 3D before but this was truly amazing. The future of LaserTV is brilliant and full of color. If you consider that the two primary picture elements have a 100,000 hour life expectancy with no measurable decay that means that this technology will be around for quite a while.

It looks like the LASER TV is coming sooner rather then later. Based on the formal invite I received form Mitsubishi I think it will ship in 2008! I hope to be seeing the finished preproduction engineering sample at a formal Debut January 7th @ CES. This will be a Press only with a few select Dealers being invited. I am very excited about the future of LASER TV. It is has the potential to unseat Plasma for the best Picture Quality position while simultaneously unseating LCD as the brightest technology.

I have it on display and it is skinny and the picture is better then last years by quite a bit.
Well I finally got the upgrade rolled to production and Name your Price is one step closer to its intended design.
We have added a few product sort filters and some cool search stuff via google mini.
http://www.walts.com/search.php using google search technology has given us a real search engine.
Well it looks like SED is a no go at this point, At least stalled again anyway.
There must be some kind of production process problem. It sounds a bit like LCOS part du.
Here is a link to the story if you want further details.

SED was to be the King of flat panel technology. It looks like that may not happen for another year.

There are many opinions as to what is better Plasma or LCD. If one visits a typical Big Box these days you will likely be told that LCD is better and then maybe even shown a bright picture video loop and conclude that they are indeed better. Here are some important facts that you may want to consider before making such a conclusion.
I have included only the three most important Pro’s and Con’s about the technologies. These facts are applicable in the context of a typical US consumer watching TV, HDTV, DVD and a verity of different types of programming. If you are a gamer you will likely choose DLP or Plasma not LCD assuming money and size are not an issue.
Top 3 Pro’s
Plasma: Better Blacks, better color, more durable screen surface.
LCD: Brighter, Less expensive, Uses less power.
Top 3 Con’s
Plasma: Possible Burn In (Over blown), Power Use (Same as traditional TV)
LCD: Poor Blacks (Hard to see dark scenes), Screen Easily Damaged( i.e. Wii Remote), Slow refresh (Non issue with 120HZ).
Wow what a show. Mitsubishi is continuing to innovate television technology. Mitsubishi will have a 73″ 1080P television that is 17.5 ” deep and only 92 lbs. That is truly amazing when you stop and think about it. The 15K LG Plasma is 11 inches deep and 300 lbs try hanging that on a wall. For the folks that want a really Big Picture this will be a serious candidate.
Other highlights include the new 40″ and 52″ LCD Flat Panel TV’s, all 1080P and seveal 120HZ. Most products will have 3 or 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs. One of many cool things about these units is the sculpted backs. When you look at them from the side they have clean lines and when mounted on the wall with a chief mount you will not see mounts or wiring.
In addition the Frame is thiner then any other LCD I have seen yet.
I saw further revisions of LASER DLP HDTV . We will see this technology in early to mid 2008. What an incredible technology.
So I guess by the calls I got from many customers I am famous. Well maybe for a day anyway. This article gives a little insight into the History of Walts and where I fit in.

Well as most of you know the VCR is gone and so to is the blinking 12:00 from our entertainment centers. We still have some left but the big box stores have stopped selling them. I suppose the tapes and head cleaners will so be gone as well. Since I have been around since beta I would suggest everyone who still wants to playback VHS tapes get a back up unit just in case.
Here is a funny read about VHS History

Well it has been a while since I last wrote about CES. I suppose I should let you know that I did not make it due to me playing in the sand and breaking my arm. I will explain in case someone might care. I was ridding my LTZ-450 Quad and ran over a big hole and busted my arm at the Sand dunes outside of Yuma Arizona. Anyway I will be fine except for the 6 inch plate in my arm and the 8 inch zipper like scar to remember the event.
Back to CES. So while I was laying around recovering I directed from afar my trusted employees that went to look at and report back to me anything interesting. I also read everything I could find and talked with several account Reps and other folks in the industry. What I came away with is, this year will be a repeat of last year for the most part. We off course will have improvements in the various display technologies and audio systems but nothing really drastic except the Streaming media abilities, more on this later. So while there were some exciting annoucements and some really cool products most of which will not be available till fourth quarter as is to be expected.
The Apple Iphone had so much reporting that everyone will be let down when it arrives except for the most avid Apple fans.
Ok so flat panel televisions will continue to cut into larger screen sizes that utilize DLP, LCOS/ SXRD and LCD microdisplay. I think microdisplay LCD may be dead for all but the largest sizes. But Plasma and LCD will continue to grow in size and shrink in price which has been the case for a few years now.
Now DLP and SXRD will get skinner and the now infamous lamp will start to be faded out and replaced with LED in the short run followed by lasers. Most of this will happen for the 2009 product lines as opposed to the new stuff coming out later this year.
Audio continued to become iPOD and Internet friendly with a touch of wireless added in for good measure.
Ok, so what is going on in convergence? Well this is probably the biggest news in reality. Quietly the TV manufacturers have been running scared and have invested in adding streaming media capabilities to their television offerings. This will allow consumers to grab content from their personal computers and the Internet for display of their units. Pioneer PRO-940HD, PRO-1140HD and 1540HD along with the Blue Ray disc players already have this capability. But this year just about everyone is developing or introducing products with these features. So this is going to be the first year in which people start to understand and desire these types of features. Apple is going to lead the way in this area likely with the Apple iTv which will work with iTunes and allow for real on demand programming to be download and then played back in HD or SD. This sort of stuff can be real neat and very useful. I will be following the development and let you know of any real products that stand out.
Thanks for stopping by
